MEET GUEST SPEAKER Michael M. Haglund MD, PhD, MACM, FAANS, FCS
Dr. Michael M. Haglund holds the endowed chair as the Distinguished Duke Surgery Professor of Neurosurgery and Professor of Neurobiology, Global Health, and Orthopedic Surgery at Duke University. He did his neurological surgery residency at the University of Washington School of Medicine including a two year Fellowship in Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School, and an Epilepsy Surgery Fellowship.
During his neurological surgery residency, Dr. Haglund received the prestigious Klingenstein Foundation Fellowship in the Neurosciences. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of Education and the Program Training Director for the Duke Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Haglund’s has spent the last 21 years working in medical missions, doing 11 years on the neurosurgical work in Uganda. He is the Co-Director of the Uganda Neurosurgery Training Program and has trained five Ugandans and seven more are currently in the Neurosurgery Residency program in Uganda.
Dr. Mike Haglund served as an overseeing physician for two Project Orphans children who received life-saving surgery in Uganda by on of his fellow Ugandan surgeons.
MEET Our HOST JULIE CHIN
Julie Chin has called Oklahoma home for nearly 20+ years. The New York native came to the Sooner state for its crazy weather, and tracked Oklahoma storms for nearly a decade as the lead weekday morning and midday Meteorologist for KJRH-TV During that time Julie won numerous Emmy Awards and garnered several more nominations for her life saving work. She also helped educate thousands of children about weather safety.
Julie currently is taking a break from TV weather. Julie owns her own company, and is the TV, radio and digital spokesperson for numerous businesses in the Tulsa area.
Oklahoma Magazine and Tulsa Business Journal have both named Julie to their lists of the state’s top “40 under 40.” Julie has also been awarded the Scripps Howard William Burleigh National Award for “Outstanding Community Service,” and has been named by the American Red Cross as an “Everyday Hero.” Julie is married to an Oklahoman and recently took on her most favorite job ever - a mom to an adorable toddler.
