Thankful for YOU!

A Message from our Co-Founders this Thanksgiving

"EVERY CHILD OF GOD OVERCOMES THE WORLD, FOR OUR FAITH IS THE VICTORIOUS POWER  THAT TRIUMPHS OVER THE WORLD.”
- 1 JOHN 5

Last year, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Over the past 18-months, Uganda has implemented all sorts of lockdowns, curfews, and restrictions to minimize spread. These social control measures made serving and protecting children, young girls, and the vulnerable harder than ever before.

Nearly a year-and-a-half later, in July 2021, restrictions have started to lift. However, the after-effects of these restrictions sadden us to this day. It seems like every week, Child Protection Officers request Project Orphans (PO) to support or shelter young girls who survived sexual violence or abuse during the lockdown. At a press conference, Rose Apondi, a Ugandan HIV-prevention specialist with the CDC, shared that when comparing a period before the lockdown in 2020 to the recent months after the lockdown - there has been a 24% increase in reports of rape and a 30% increase in sexual violence experienced towards girls.

Project Orphans is committed to continuing to serve on the front lines and responding to the repercussions of pandemic violence against girls and the most vulnerable in Uganda. Because of you, the Project Orphan’s kids and those connected to our programs remained safe and never stood alone—they felt valued and loved. Because of your partnership, we’ve been able to respond on the frontlines when called to help. You’ve sent support to young girls who have lived through abuse and have provided them with legal justice and protection. You helped Project Orphan kids’ minds continue to flourish, sending school packages during the lockdown. You helped families turn the corner from hunger to harvest. You provided medical care, life-saving surgeries, and therapies to those who needed you most.

Together, we can continue mending the wounds of the pandemic and show God’s love, compassion, and grace.

Thank you for boldly serving alongside our mission. We could not do this without you—and we wouldn’t want to. As we enter a season of giving and make plans for a new year — we ask you to continue to partner with Project Orphans. Because together, we can continue to show compassion, fight for justice, and spread God’s love to the orphan, vulnerable, and voiceless.

— Brittany & Christina, Co-Founders of Project Orphans
