MEDICAL + MATERNAL HEALTHCARE

HEALTHCARE IN RURAL UGANDA

In this rural area, accessing medical care is a daunting task. With no organized transportation for medical emergencies going to a health centre often means walking for hours.

In our area - we are working to provide access to quality healthcare.

RESPONDING TO OUR
COMMUNITY'S HEALTHCARE NEEDS

In rural Uganda, there is only one doctor for every 22,000 Ugandans. It’s estimated that 70% of doctors practice in urban areas where only 20% of the population lives. Access to quality healthcare in rural areas is nearly impossible.

The Project Orphan’s Medical Clinic (POMC) is registered as a Health Center IV in rural Uganda, Africa. This level of health facility serves as a mini-hospital. The clinic has multiple in-patient exam rooms, delivery room, pharmacy, surgical theatre, medical ward, and laboratory.

With an emphasis on prevention and care, POMC helps families obtain care and healthcare guidance. The clinic is equipped with a medical software empowers that helps track patients' health, medical history, prescriptions, and other medical information, which ensures continuity of care.

POMC expanded its healthcare services by opening Miracle Birthing Centre (MBC) which works to improve maternal and infant health. According to UNICEF, each day 15 women die in Uganda from childbirth-related causes, 94 babies are stillborn, and 81 newborn babies die.

Miracle Birthing Centre is equipped with deliver beds, incubators, baby warmers, oxygenators, medicine, pulse monitors, ultrasound machines and other quality medical equipment.

Project Orphans imagines a world where all women have access to a midwife and are respected, empowered and thrive throughout the birth process. MBC offers to satisfy a family's fee to register their newborn and receive a legal birth certificate. The medical staff that live on the Pearl Village campus are available 24/7 for patient emergencies .

QUALITY HEALTHCARE

Healthcare is a vital need not only for the children and young-women living on-site; but for our community at large.  With an emphasis on prevention and care, Project Orphan’s Medical Centre (POMC) provides support for the community by offering them accessible, quality healthcare.

OUR GOAL IS SIMPLE.

To focus on health issues with the greatest impact including malnutrition, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. And also invest in the education of local community members.
